Preserving a record of music and and dance in the Balkin Mountains.

As a young man, Martin Koenig traveled to Bulgaria on several grants from the Smithsonian to record the voices, instruments, and dances of that region.  As the result of “modernization” many of those art forms have been lost.. Martin’s film and recordings are now in the Smithsonian.  He has spent his entire life teaching Balkin Dance and seeking out and promoting musicians and dancers who descend from that region.
