Community Service Donations: One Sunday each month, we pass the plate not for the ongoing need to sustain our congregation but for the needs of others beyond our walls. We choose a non-profit, international, national or local, whose values are consistent with our own. Often a guest speaker from the non-profit comes to tell us about their activities.

Recent recipients of our Community Service Donations include:

Vashon: Vashon Food Bank, Vashon Kids (part of Vashon Youth and Family Services), Interfaith Council for the Prevention of Homelessness (Covid fund, general fund), DOVE Vashon, Vashon Household

Washington: Community Passageways, Northwest Community Bail Fund, Real Rent Duwamish, Washington Environmental Council, Church of the Indian Fellowship (Tacoma), Northwest Immigrant Rights, Seattle Indian Health Board

National: DRUUM (Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries), TRUUsT (Transgender Religious UU professionals Together)

Community Fund:  Every year, members are invited to make pledges toward a community fund that will be used to offer financial contributions on behalf of VIUU to local organizations.  Recipients are voted on my the VIUU community.

Scholarship: We select a Vashon student each year as recipient of the Bernice Black Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded to a student with an interest in a career in teaching or related fields.
