Help Fill the Community Cupboard!

Islanders Rachel Tefft and Ben Hunter built a food pantry, the COMMUNITY CUPBOARD, on their property (east side of Vashon Highway and 188th Street – across from VHH’s new housing development, Island Center Homes) and are inviting the Vashon community to help keep it full.

The Social and Environmental Justice Committee thought this would be a good local action project for us, and is sponsoring a pilot drive to fill the Cupboard this month.  We want to see if this is an action that works for our UU community and if it does, we will encourage other churches to participate.

Here’s a list of what’s appropriate for the Cupboard:
Shelf stable milks, peanut butter, tuna, canned soups, rice, beans, spices and seasonings, dried and canned vegetables, cereals, sugar, nuts, energy bars, snacks and personal hygiene items.

Please bring them to Lewis Hall on Sundays, and place them in the large rubber tub with lid located next to the coffee and tea area.  The tub with lid will keep the food safe and our kitchen free from critters!

Thank you.
