The GEO Group (a for profit company that operates the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma) was ordered by the courts to pay detainees minimum wage for jobs they do while in detainment (cleaning/cooking) instead of one dollar per day as in the past. Instead of doing that, GEO has stopped hiring any detainees at all, and conditions have gotten much worse. More here
Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (AIDNW) is asking for donations through Dec. 15 for the “Commissary Fund” — the urgency is to enable incarcerated immigrants to call their families during the holidays when they have no way to earn money, and so they can purchase protein/hygiene products from the commissary.
AIDNW wants to provide $20 to every detainee.
- Send check to AIDNW: 1916 South Sheridan, Tacoma 98495. Checks should be marked for the commissary fund. (or)
- Donate online: https://aidnw.org and write “Commissary Fund” in the “dedicate this gift” section under the amount options.
